MMA fans across the United States were given the option on whether they wanted to watch live weigh-ins on Spike TV when the cable channel aired a half-hour broadcast of the proceedings from last weekend's UFC 116 event from last weekend and it appears that MMA fans have answered quite positively.
Preliminary estimates have the weigh-in special drawing 645,000 viewers for the cable channel, a positive number for the first-time broadcast. Though the number pales when compared to the viewership of Spike's UFC Prelim specials, the numbers are still high enough that Spike TV officials are considering another weigh-in special in the future, though there is no set plan for which event it may be.
Spike TV and the UFC's relationship began back in 2005 when the promotion launched The Ultimate Fighter reality show and has since grown to include the preliminary card specials and weigh-ins, UFC Fight Night cards, the UFC Unleashed program and various replays of pay-per-view events, as well as occasional free pay-per-view fight cards from overseas.
